With the merger of the city's three Universities in 2009, Strasbourg now has the biggest University in France, in terms of the number of students and lecturers. The University offers a broad range of often innovative degree courses.

The Investing for the Future programme

The main focuses of the State-sponsored Investing for the Future programme are higher education and research. The Programme started off with a series of calls for projects, a number of which were won by the University of Strasbourg, which was also awarded the Initiative of Excellence. The University's application was underpinned by the support of its scientific partners, local and regional authorities and all the region's major stakeholders.
