Project leader: City of Strasbourg

The participation of associations in the project is encouraged to stimulate youth participation coming from different fields and to allow a broad diffusion of the project.

Project duration: 27 months, from September 1st 2012 to November 30th 2014

Projects’ aims:

Cities for You, Cities for Europe aims at strengthening trust between elected representatives and citizens as well as to foster citizen participation in Europe.

The project aims at getting citizens to know more about Europe and its values and make them fully aware of their status of European citizen and encourage them to take part in public life, both at the local and European levels.

During the whole project, particular attention is drawn on youth citizen participation and on the role of new technologies.

Activities implemented:

Numerous international activities are organised (annual and thematic meetings) to allow a face-to-face dialogue between young citizens of different geographical and social origins, political decision-makers and actors from the youth sector (facilitators, technicians, political advisors, etc.).

These exchanges focus on existing mechanisms and methods at both local and European levels to give citizens incentive and means to get involved in public life.

At the local level, the partner cities implement large-scale public initiatives on the topic of Europe and its values with the objective of enabling everyone to participate in the construction of a democratic Europe and to develop a sense of European identity.

The project’s final results will be presented to the newly elected Members of the European Parliament as well as to the elected representatives of the Strasbourg Club’s member cities.
